3 Reasons Strong Women May Struggle in Their Love Life
Can a strong woman really find love with a man? Whoa…this is going to be a good one! The answer is yes; a strong woman can absolutely find true love. Not all men are intimidated by strong women. In fact, I am going to go out on a limb here, and say that a truly strong man will be seeking the love of a truly strong woman.
The concept of the weak, incapable, mousy woman is really a product of the last Century or so. History tells quite a different story. For example, in the pioneering days of the American frontier, women were strong. They had to be strong to survive. As a result, men in those days were looking for a woman who could walk beside them, as an equal. They didn’t want someone to walk behind them, and they didn’t want someone to walk in front of them. They wanted an equal. They wanted a partner. It is the same with real men today.
Why then does it seem so difficult for strong women, who desire to find true love, to find that which they seek? Well, there are a few reasons I can think of. Let me give them to you, and you can be the judge.
Strong Women Sometimes Misunderstand the Definition of “True Love”
The premise of the question, “Can a strong woman find true love?” seems to spring from the conception that a strong woman has to give up her strength in order to find love. Nothing could be further from the truth. True love, would accept her strength, and actually enhance it.
A man who says, “I love you but you are just too strong.” Doesn’t actually love you. He is in love with the idea of you, or with the vision of what he wishes you could be; but he is not in love with you. If you are a strong woman, then don’t give that up for a man who is afraid of your strength or who wishes to change it. That isn’t true love.
Strong Women Tend to Have a Chip on Their Shoulder
Don’t ball up your fists just yet! I realize that many women have had to fight and kick to get where they are. I realize that there are some real jerks for men out there. However, not all men are jerks. There are real strong men, who admire strength in women. Still, those men are just as turned off by aggressive women as strong women are turned off by aggressive men.
You have to learn how to control your strength. You have to find someone who is also strong, and let your guard down for a minute and let them inside. Truly strong men, not the bullies, will not fight you for your affection and respect. They will respect you enough to walk away if you are always on the prod. Be strong, but be approachable. Female strength does not mean forgetting that you are women, any more than masculine strength means forgetting you are a man.
Strong Women Struggle “Turning Off” at Home
I get it; sometimes the corporate world is tough. It is a dog-eat-dog world out there. However, strong women sometimes struggle with turning off their defense mechanisms when the work day is over. This can severely impede the process of finding “real love.”
When the day is over, and you are out to dinner, you don’t have to prove your strength. Hopefully the guy you are with respects your achievements and your strengths already, and there is no need to keep reminding him how “tough” you are. It is alright to let your date, or spouse, behave is a chivalrous fashion. You don’t have to act offended if they want to pick up the tab, or open the door for you.
If your significant other wants to spoil you a little bit, then that is a sign that they love you, not a sign that they don’t respect you. If you make a good salary, but your date wants to pay for dinner, then let him! If he wants to open the door for you or hold your chair; let him! Enjoy the perks of being a woman. After all, you are one!
