Relationship Coach Leslie Saul on how to spice up your love lifeRomance and food have always been linked in some way or another and for very good reason.

We all know that certain foods such as chocolate, chili and oysters have aphrodisiac qualities and promote blood flow, but did you know that the textures and scents of different foods can also play a part in kicking your libido into action?

Studies have shown that the scent of certain foods can have a dramatic effect in awakening the senses. Men’s bodies respond to sweeter scents such as vanilla, pumpkin, lavender and even freshly baked cookies whereas women seem to have more of a reaction to the smell of cucumber and liquorice.

Foods with smoother textures such as melted chocolate and ice-cream can also conjure sensual feelings.

Romantic dinners are a well-known mood enhancer, but who says you have to wait until dinner’s ready before you start to heat things up?

Cooking dinner together is not only an ideal way to find some extra quality time with each other – it’s a great opportunity to spice up your love life. Sneaking up on your partner and gently kissing them on the neck while they are cooking can sometimes be enough to get the sparks flying – or why not get a bit messy with some ingredients and take turns licking them off each other.

Let’s be honest, the kitchen has many surfaces to take advantage of, for a kitchen quickie before dinner. You could lean against the cupboards, sit on benches or even on the floor – the position possibilities are endless!

Fun with food doesn’t have to be limited to the kitchen – venturing outside in the fresh air and having a picnic somewhere with a spectacular view can elevate your senses to a whole other level.

Pack a variety of different foods that are bite sized and easy to eat, it’s amazing the seductive effect that hand feeding each other can have. Try using a blind fold and have your partner guess what you are feeding them. Once the sense of sight is taken out of play, the other senses step up a notch which can be highly arousing, especially when you bring hot and cold ingredients into the mix – such as hot chocolate and ice cubes.

With such busy lifestyles, it’s easy to fall into a rut with our sex lives and incorporating food is an easy way to keep the romance and passion alive in your relationship. Don’t let the spark fizzle out – just get a little bit creative!
