Is there a right and wrong here? When it comes to parenting, I am no expert. Having no children of my own and writing this article may cause some rough seas for this fish. That’s ok, I am fine with that, and I’ll just swim sideways and make my way back to shore. With that said, I can say I have been an expert at being a kid once (and still am at times).I cannot tell you how many times I have received calls from parents seeking my skills to “fix my kid.” More times often than not, I lose a client due to bringing to their attention that their kid is doing the exact same thing they are. Although I totally believe that children can benefit from my services, I find it is an unlikely task to achieve, until the parent changes their own beliefs, habits, behaviors and/or fears.
The whole premise to my work is to get to the root cause of an issue. 95% of the time the root cause is a “learned behavior.” Well, where do you think these behaviors originate? Hmmmm, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcjZtsFU5Z4
I do believe that the fish rots from the head down. It is my opinion that unless we seriously take a hard look at ourselves as leaders and get in touch with the learned behaviors that we are passing down to our children, students and subordinates, heck, people in general, and break the cycle, there is a better chance that EVERYTHING we were taught will continue to get passed down from generation to generation. It’s actually kind of simple if you think about it. In my humble opinion, it is a parent’s responsibility to do everything in their power to make sure that they are healthy and well adjusted. After all, ANY MAN CAN FATHER A CHILD BUT IT TAKES A REAL MAN TO BE A DADDY. Do you agree with this?
Now I am not saying that the kid referred to in this video or children in general don’t need to show respect and be grateful, that’s just a different blog. However, again, the fish rots from the head down. LEAD BY EXAMPLE! “Because I said so and do as I say, not as I do,” DOES NOT COMPUTE on this laptop. Parents, I hope this article doesn’t make you want to use me as chum. If it does, my apologies, but please do not shoot my laptop. It is just an opinion of one fish in a big ocean. Don’t take it personally.
