Secrets Married Men Know

Married men can spot great girls. Okay, that might sound a little obvious, but for once I am not talking about their ability to “check a girl out.”  I am actually referring to their ability to spot a girl who would make a really great wife or girlfriend.

It has been said that beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes all the way to the bone. That is true!  It is also true that ugly can sometimes hide under that surface of beauty, only to appear at a later time, usually when it is too late.  Married guys have a terrific amount of experience in this department. If hindsight is twenty-twenty, then so is a married sight…most of the time.  Married guys aren’t always right about girls, but they are right more often than you might think.  Want to know what they know?  Here are some of the top things they look for when identifying a great girl.

Cheerleaders

Stop! I am not talking about actual cheerleaders. Sheesh! Give the poor guys a break! :)  What I am referring to is a woman who knows how to genuinely cheer her man on.  Trust me, or married men, when I tell you that a woman that will cheer on a man will look ten times more attractive than the woman with the large bust size.  Add a woman with a large bust size that knows how to cheer on her man and you have…well…you know.

Cheerleading is not about being a bouncy, empty-headed blonde with more legs than sense. It is, however, about knowing how to encourage a man to pursue his dreams, slay his dragons, and face down his fears, while standing by his side when he fails and helping him up.  That is a treasure worth its weight in gold to most men.  Married men who have to live with a nag that is always on their case, and never satisfied with their efforts understand the value of the cheerleader.

Weightlifters

What!  Weightlifters?  Okay, I put that headline there just to get your attention. Now that I have it, let me explain. By weightlifter, I mean a woman that has the ability to carry the load and hold up her end of the relationship. Married men know that the kind of (Cue Southern accent here.)”poor little helpless thang” that some guys are looking for won’t make a very good partner.  Think about the character of Stephanie from the 80’s sitcom “Newhart.”  She was a spoiled, shallow, self-centered drop-dead gorgeous woman.  She had the kind of looks most men only dream about.  Still, she was weak. She couldn’t, or wouldn’t do anything to contribute to a meaningful relationship, and gave the impression that it was all about her.  A guy might be willing to do whatever she asked for the chance to hop into her bed, but he will regret it later when he finds himself carrying all the weight in the relationship. Sex isn’t everything in a relationship.  Don’t believe me? Ask a married guy…or better yet, a divorced one!

Secrets Married Men Know About Finding a Great Girl

Sexist!  I know, you can’t stand such a blatant, sexist, patriarchal term.  Before getting mad, let me explain. I am not referring to a woman who is barefoot, pregnant, and chained to the stove. (So chill out for a moment.)  I am referring to a woman who can make wherever she lives, “home.”  I am talking about the kind of girl a man wants to come home to. She makes his life complete. She may have her own career, and he doesn’t mind that. In fact, he may be proud to have a wife who is successful in her chosen field.  The point is, that regardless of her vocation, she is home to him. It has nothing to do with manual housework or procreation, and everything to do with an attitude that says, “We belong together.”

What do you think?  Do you know what kind of women married men notice?  Are you a married man that knows some secrets of your own you want to share?  What characteristics do you notice in women now that you wished you had noticed before? Please take a moment and chime it.  Trust me…the women are listening.
